Lovely Heritage Downsyndrome: What we do

What we do

We want a world where people with Down syndrome and other learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included as respected members of the society. All of our activities are designed to make this world a reality for children and young people with Down Syndrome or learning disabilities, their families and carers.

Social integration

Social integration

We foster the social integration of children and young people with Down Syndrome into their communities, including supporting them to develop their interpersonal social skills, friendships, play and leisure skills, independence and self-help skills, and socially acceptable behaviour.

We also organise summer camps for children and young people with Down syndrome as a means of reducing their isolation,

Support for parents and carers

Support for parents and carers

Our ‘drop-in’ sessions open to all families with children with special needs, offers a warm welcome and a chance to relax and chat with other parents while the children play, supported by our trained volunteers.

The sessions often feature visiting professionals with whom the parents will be able to discuss with about any worries they may have or just to pick up tips about the next developmental phase that their children may soon go through, make new friends and share experiences or just come and learn about the group and the other services we offer.

Raising awareness

Raising awareness

At Lovely Heritage Down Syndrome, we raise public awareness of the condition and factors that lead to Down syndrome, while providing the much needed help to people with Down syndrome, their families and support network. Our aim is that people with Down syndrome should have the opportunity to enjoy good health and wellbeing.

Our approach to the social integration of people with Down syndrome results in a society where being physically and mentally healthy is the norm. Our team is also equipped to signpost Down syndrome patients to other services that will help them improve their overall health and wellbeing.
